Communities For All Ages
This community effort, funded by the Foundation for the MidSouth, is to build a healthier community in the low wealth neighborhood of East Jerusalem in Hattiesburg, MS through: 1) increasing community access to fresh fruits and vegetables; 2) increasing opportunities for physical activity; and 3) building trust, making connections, and identifying leaders among residents of all ages.
The East Jerusalem Fresh Food on the Block Community Farmer’s Market was initiated to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Now in its second season, residents can walk to the Market to purchase from June through November.
Circuit exercise groups and healthy cooking classes for youth ages 7 to 14 yrs. are also a part of the healthy community efforts. See more…
