Serving our Seniors (S.O.S.) and USM Community Nursing Programs
Homebound elderly now receive home visits through a partnership between PAFF and the College of Nursing at the University of Southern Miss. Some 75 nursing students visits elderly clients during June and July summer semesters. Nursing students take vital signs, organize medicines and provide much encouragement. Our elderly love the visits and there’s much mutual learning. Nursing students really come to appreciate the many challenges elderly face especially those without family support and/or limited financial means.
Seniors in the visiting program also receive commodities (toilet paper, laundry detergent, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, hand soap, lotion and garbage bags ) and fresh fruits and vegetables (when available).
Commodities are provided by donations from businesses and individuals and are deeply appreciated.
